This hand from stone   Public Record    2024

Images courtesy of Public RecordThis hand from stone presented by Public Record marks the first solo exhibition by Grace Mirams. A series of gestural and exploratory works that engage monotype printmaking as both process and inquiry. The works move between intention and instinct, where mark-making becomes a way of thinking through material.

Each impression is formed through the manipulation and removal of ink using brushes, rags, solvents, and the etching press. Rubbing, scratching, and dissolving surfaces create an iterative process, where pressure acts as a determining force while outcomes remain uncertain. There
is a continual negotiation between control and chance, allowing each work to unfold in its
own time.
Textures shift between the fluid and the structured. Soft, liquid marks sit alongside more abrasive surfaces, where traces of the urban and the organic begin to intertwine. The works carry a sense of movement and responsiveness, forming a visual language that is both immediate and reflective.
